Recently I’ve taken some photos for Vogue. You’d think with all the red carpets and A-list celebrities being photographed that Vogue would be full of glitz and glamour. Well, it is, but it’s also a lot of hard work! The photo shoot took place over two days in Berlin. Vogue’s stylists included me in their discussions about the shoot, asking questions about my photography, how I see subjects and why I’ve decided to approach them the way that I have. If you’re planning to get into fashion photography then you should know it all started at Vogue; they’re part of the reason why people take my photos as seriously now as they do.
The new way of representing men in media is to forget gender stereotypes and break out of the boundaries. It aims to attract more people, especially women, by mixing male beauty with a hint of female charms. When it comes to fashion, men have more freedom and leeway than ever before; not just in the women’s department but also with cross-dressing and mixing feminine signifiers into their outfit. What this represent is that masculine beauty has evolved far beyond stereotypical conceptions. This editorial features some of the most prominent male talent from the killer industries: fashion, high fashion & art (editorial model from Vogue, Versace’s campaign star, high end model & label ambassador).
With the societal and cultural climate being what it is, we still have not figured out a reason for this. In fact, I reached out to my own friends and colleagues in the industry, who are thought leaders on the topic to find out what we can do about this situation.
